Exfoliant

Mandelic Acid

Mandelic acid is an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) derived from almonds. Its larger molecular size makes it gentler than glycolic acid, ideal for sensitive skin and those prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

When to Use

Evening

Concentration

5% - 10% for home use

Best For

Sensitive skin, Darker skin tones, Acne-prone skin, AHA beginners, Rosacea (mild)

How It Works

Exfoliates by breaking bonds between dead skin cells. Larger molecular size means slower, more even penetration with less irritation. Also has antibacterial effects against acne-causing bacteria.

Benefits

  • Gentlest AHA available
  • Safe for darker skin tones
  • Antibacterial properties
  • Helps with acne and texture
  • Less sun sensitivity than other AHAs

Pairs Well With

  • + Hyaluronic acid
  • + Niacinamide
  • + Gentle moisturizers

Avoid Using With

  • Other AHAs/BHAs (same routine)
  • Retinoids (same routine)
  • Vitamin C (can work but monitor)

Getting Started

Start with 5% every other night. The gentlest AHA, so a great starting point. Can eventually use nightly. Always follow with sunscreen in the AM.
